NetProbe Packet Driver Service - How to Stop?

Hello,

Every couple of hours my system will freeze due to Net Probe. My Windows Event Log says the following at the exact time of the crash:

Log Name: System
Source: Service Control Manager
Date: 28/10/2009 10:19:16 PM
Event ID: 7000
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Description:
The NetProbe Packet Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

I had deleted netprobe.sys in my windows/system32/drivers folder earlier however it was still causing my computer to crash even with the system file there. I have tried installing and uninstalling Net Probe but it has not resolved the issue.

Any ideas on how I can disable NetProbe from wanting to start up as a service?

I've just had the same problem on a Windows 2003 box. I had to uninstall the packet drive off the network card.

Control Panel/Network Connections/Local Area Connection 1

Right click, select properties & then uninstall

"NetProbe Packet Drive"

I found it under the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks".
