Simultaneous stacked bar and side-by-side

Is it possible to create a bar chart that is both stacked and side-by-side?

I have 6 series of data, each with 30 samples. The data values in the first three series are in the range of 0 - 100000. The data values in the second three series are in the range of 0 - 100.

I normally present data like this as a stacked bar chart. The problem is with the scaling, where the last three series would not be discernable due to their relatively small values.

I was thinking that a good solution would be to use a chart that had stacked bars and side-by-side at the same time. I would like to stack the first 3 series in a column using one range (0 - 100000), and the second three series stacked against another range of data (0 - 100).

Since there are 30 samples, I would end up with a chart that had 60 bars total, grouped in sets of 2. Each bar would be stacked with three series.

Is this possible? Can it be done with an overlay that offsets the starting point of the bars?

Thanks

Combining stacked and side_by_side bars is currently not possible. You can use overlay charts, so that one group of bars wil be displaed in front of the others, like in the example:

The overlay chart looks like it would work. It certainly handles the multiple series and multiple ranges correctly.

The example that you showed had the bars one on top of each other, which is a bit confusing. Is it possible to specify an offset starting position for the bars so that I can line them up to look like side-by-side?

Thanks

Thanks for the confirmation.

Is it possible that this feature (offset the starting bar location) might be added in a future version, or should I be looking for a different way to solve my problem?

We are currently considering this feature but it is not clear yet.

Hi Philip - I wonder if this was ever implemented?

I have a perfect scenario that needs something like this. Here's hoping.

Thanks

Probable the overlayInsets parameter can be useful:

This topic was last answered in year 2006 and therefore I will ask if it is now possible to have stacked bar side by side
