We purchased and installed v1.1 a couple of weeks ago. This morning we downloaded the latest Java VM and tried to run NP as a service. After rebooting the PC, the service started automatically but the previously licensed software magically turned to an evaluation copy! So we plugged in the new machine ID and asked for a new license to be emailed. In the meantime, we uninstalled the service, rebooted the PC, and restarted NP. This time it came up with yet a different machine ID. What's going on here? There must be a better way to prevent someone from bootlegging the software but this is downright incovenient and annoying.
I'm very sorry about the inconvenience. The problem is most likely related to the VM switching. Network Probe supports most Java VM's, including Microsoft's jview/wjview, but on a few systems it seems like the host ID generation is different than expected. We recommend using Sun's Java. However, it should not change host ID again after you removed the service. What operating system is this? We cannot reproduce the problem on our XP or 2000 computers.
